Subject: Tom McArthur - obituary
E-mail this message to a friend Tom McArthur passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 30, 2020, following a long battle with dementia. In a career that spanned over five decades, his contribution to the field of English as a world language was considerable. Among his most notable accomplishments were a quarter century at the helm of Cambridge University Press' journal English Today (1983-2008) and what many believe was his crowning achievement, the publication of The Oxford Companion to the English Language (Oxford University Press, 1992). He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Lam-McArthur, three children, Meher, Roshan and Alan, and two grandchildren, Kaia and Theo.
